Thug Kitchen: The Official Cookbook: Eat Like You Give a F*ck
Thug Kitchen started their wildly popular website to inspire people to eat some goddamn vegetables and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Beloved by Gwyneth Paltrow (‘This might be my favorite thing ever’) and with half a million Facebook fans and counting, Thug Kitchen wants to show everyone how to take charge of their plates and cook up some real f*cking food.
Yeah, plenty of blogs and cookbooks preach about how to eat more kale, why ginger fights inflammation, and how to cook with microgreens and nettles. But they are dull or pretentious as hell -and most people can’t afford the hype.
Thug Kitchen lives in the real world. In their first cookbook, they’re throwing down more than 100 recipes for their best-loved meals, snacks and sides for beginning cooks to home chefs. (Roasted Beer and Lime Cauliflower Tacos? Pumpkin Chili? Grilled Peach Salsa? Believe that sh*t.) Plus they’re going to arm you with all the info and techniques you need to shop on a budget and go and kick a bunch of ass on your own.
This book is an invitation to everyone who wants to do better to elevate their kitchen game. No more ketchup and pizza counting as vegetables. No more drive-thru lines. No more avoiding the produce corner of the supermarket. Sh*t is about to get real.
Gordon Ramsay’s Ultimate Home Cooking is a collection of over 120 delicious new recipes that are infused with Gordon’s expertise and skill gleaned from his years in professional kitchens. Girl has it all, seriously. I’ve bought Chrissy Teigen’s Cravings cookbook when it was first released and there’s nothing traditional or boring about it. I can’t wait for her new cookbook in 2018. Her recipes include a mix of everything from Italian, Asian ‘Merican and Mexican with a twist! Molto Caliente.
Maybe she’s on a photo shoot in Zanzibar. Maybe she’s making people laugh on TV. But all Chrissy Teigen really wants to do is talk about dinner. Or breakfast. Lunch gets some love, too.
For years, she’s been collecting, cooking, and Instagramming her favorite recipes, and here they are: from breakfast all day to John’s famous fried chicken with spicy honey butter to her mom’s Thai classics.
Salty, spicy, saucy, and fun as sin (that’s the food, but that’s Chrissy, too), these dishes are for family, for date night at home, for party time, and for a few life-sucks moments (salads). You’ll learn the importance of chili peppers, the secret to cheesy-cheeseless eggs, and life tips like how to use bacon as a home fragrance, the single best way to wake up in the morning, and how not to overthink men or Brussels sprouts. Because for Chrissy Teigen, cooking, eating, life, and love are one and the same.
Netflix is always a good idea
2017 just got real after watching the documentary What the Health on Netflix if you haven’t heard or seen it yet (cause you’ve been living under a rock) you need to! You learn a lot about where our food comes from, specifically relating to the meat and poultry industry. Truthfully, I never consciously thought about where our food comes from (the ugly truth of and I don’t think I’m alone in this), how they’re prepped for public consumption or how eating animals or their byproducts affect our bodies. Needless to say, it was an eye-opener and informative.
If you have seen it, you’re probably wondering if I’ve made the switch to a plant-based diet and short answer is no. In general, I love my veggies, but I also love meat & fish. Since watching the doc, I have been more conscious of what and how often I eat meat or fish and as a result, I’ve been eating more beans, veggies and trying to learn of other sources of protein (man, it’s tough), but I can’t see myself cutting it out completely.
Other good finds on Netflix to keep an eye out for is Cooked, Chef’s Table, Barbecue and Decanted.
